📍 Places I went
Sacré-Cœur Basilica
📍 Montmartre, Paris
Went at sunrise — almost no tourists. The view of Paris from the steps was breathtaking. Brought croissants from the local boulangerie nearby.
Marché d'Aligre
📍 12th Arr., Paris
Local outdoor market — way better than the tourist spots. Got olives, cheese, and a vintage scarf for €3. A must.
Institut du Monde Arabe
📍 5th Arr., Paris
Free for students under 26! The rooftop views and architecture are stunning. Counter-narrative galleries are amazing — truly decolonial.

🥤 Drinks I tried
✨ MY FAVOURITE SO FAR
Blueberry Matcha Latte
at Pink Café · 5th Arr.
Must recommend to: Zara, Mum
French Toast Chai
📍 Café Noisette, Le Marais
Warm, spicy, perfect. The cinnamon toast aroma when it arrived 🤤
French Rose (Oasis)
📍 Bar du Marché, Saint-Germain
White Mocha Latte
📍 Café de Flore, Saint-Germain
A bit touristy but the ambience was nice. Overpriced for €9.
📌 TO TRY NEXT
Orange Milkshake
Spotted at La Merveille, Belleville

🍜 Food I ate
Shakshuka Brunch
📍 Mama Khoura, Belleville
North African family-run place. Best eggs I've had in Paris. Only €9 with coffee. MUST return before I leave.
Crêpe au Sarrasin
📍 Street stall, Montparnasse
Buckwheat crêpe — completely different to the tourist ones near Eiffel. This was the real thing.
Falafel Wrap
📍 L'As du Fallafel, Le Marais
A Paris icon for good reason. Queue was worth it. Only €6!

🛍️ Souvenirs & Buys
Vintage Silk Scarf
📍 Marché d'Aligre
Only €3 from an older vendor. Beautiful floral print. For: Mum 🎁
Hand-painted postcard set
📍 Montmartre artist alley
Bought directly from the artist — €5 for 4 cards. Keeping one for my journal wall.
Local spice mix
📍 Belleville market
North African blend — smells incredible. €4. For: Me 😌
📌 STILL WANT TO BUY
Linen tote bag
Seen at Marché des Enfants Rouges

📖 Fun Stories
Got lost in the Catacombs
📍 Catacombs, 14th Arr.
Took a wrong turn coming out of the exit and ended up in a random residential street. A local grandmother actually walked me back to the metro. We spoke entirely in broken French and she laughed the entire time. Paris in one moment.
First time speaking French
📍 Boulangerie near campus
Ordered a croissant entirely in French and the baker replied back in French without switching to English. Major milestone. Texted my mum immediately.

💡 Advice
How to eat well in Paris on a student budget
Markets like Marché d'Aligre are your best friend. Skip the Eiffel Tower cafes — Belleville has the real food at a third of the price…
🌿 Decolonial
Finding African Paris: spaces that center Black history
The Institut du Monde Arabe, Cité Nationale de l'Immigration, Belleville's Afro-diasporic art scene — Paris has stories that don't make it into guidebooks…
📖 Story
The day I got completely lost and found my favourite café
I'd been in Paris three days. My Google Maps died. I took three wrong turns and ended up in a tiny street in Oberkampf where a hand-painted sign said "café"…
💡 Advice
Transport tips that no student guide told me
The Navigo Découverte weekly pass is €30 unlimited — worth it even for 5 days. Also, night buses (Noctilien) run until 5am and are free with your pass…

Our Mission 🌿
🐝
Beelo is for students, by students.
We aim to empower young people studying abroad whilst empowering the local communities that host them.
01
Prioritise local, small businesses
Only student recommendations appear on the Beelo map. No sponsored listings. No corporate chains. Only places real students love, that align with our values.
02
Document journeys & inspire sustainable tourism
Your journal isn't just for you — the stories you share inspire the next student to explore differently, more intentionally, and more sustainably.
03
Build community between students & host cities
Study abroad can be isolating. Beelo connects you with fellow students and opens doors to real connections with the people who actually live there.
Our values
🌱 Sustainability 🤝 Ethical consumerism 🌿 Decolonial tourism 🐝 Local first ✊ Community 📖 Student voice
